Action PlanAn important goal of the Women in Local Government Project is for women to be 30 per cent of candidates running for council in the 2008 municipal election. This is a significant but achievable increase over 2004, when 21 per cent of candidates were women. The project also aims to increase women’s numbers on advisory committees and municipal boards and at the senior levels of municipal administrations. To accomplish these goals, we are reaching out to women. We have created a public education campaign, a mentoring program for new women councillors, and a bursary program for women municipal administrators.
